Since the establishment of the "Paris Agreement", more public, commercial institutions and social organizations have been taking a variety of actions to mitigate climate change, after realizing the urgency and necessity of the situation, despite the fact that the global greenhouse gas emissions are still rising annually. These actions include increasing the frequency of taking public transportation, purchasing renewable power and environmentally friendly products, and developing proposals to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, which includes the healthcare industry.
In such a context, Zhao Ang, the co-founder and co-director of REEI, addressed the neccesity for healthcare institutions to tackle climate change in the article "From awareness to action: A brief discussion on measures taken by China's healthcare institutions in reaction to climate change and carbon emissions reduction", published by "Chinese Hospital Architecture & Equipment". Beyond that, he also discussed the main factors affecting carbon emissions from healthcare institutions and listed examples from different countries to illustrate the likelihood to reduce carbon emissions, and finally, possible obstacles in the process of GHG accounting and reporting were also mentioned at the end of the article.
