The wrong incentives: The discussion of the necessity of ending subsidy for waste incineration power generated electricity price
REEI 2020/07/20

In recent years, China's urban waste disposal shifted from landfill-based to incineration-oriented due to the large number of government policies to promote the rapid development of China's waste incineration industry. Although waste incineration can relieve the pressure of solid waste disposal in Chinese cities, the environmental and climate change effects brought on by waste incineration power generation can not be ignored. On July 20, 2020, "Polaris Waste Network " reprinted the "The Wrong Incentives: The Need to End Subsidies for Waste Incineration Power Generation" report released by the Rock Environment and Energy Insitutue. The report through examination of the characteristics of household waste composition, the environmental and climate impacts of waste incineration power generation, the EU's new sustainable waste management level and strategy, and the risk of overcapacity in the 14th Five-Year Plan, concluded that waste incineration power generation renewable energy tariff subsidy policy should be terminated.
