To meet the international climate commitment of '3060', various industry sectors in China are actively developing their own sectoral carbon peak and carbon neutral pathways. In 2019, 242 million tonnes of China's municipal solid waste (MSW) were disposed of and this figure is increasing year on year. MSW, if not properly treated and utilised, will also generate significant greenhouse gas emissions, which will be a major barrier to achieving China's '3060' carbon targets.
Therefore, the project team hopes to promote sustainable waste management through projects such as waste incineration and capacity building for municipal solid waste social organisations, which will contribute to China's overall reduction in CO2 emissions and will be integral to the country's achievement of the 3060 climate goal.
