The transport sector emits both traditional pollutants and greenhouse gases, which makes finding a solution for transportation emission reduction issues challenging. Although the pollutants come from the same sources, their impact and formation process are very different, resulting in that the policies for the two are separated when they are formulated, but they are partially overlapped at the implementation level, making the results unsatisfactory.
In the context of low-emission transportation project research, Lin Jiaqiao, co-director of REEI, published an article "Review of Low-Emission Policies in China's Transport Sector". This article was also reprinted by "Carbon Trading Network" on October 29, 2019. In this article, Lin Jiaqiao detailed the development history of China's carbon emissions from transportation, and proposed to introduce specialized policies for the transport sector to cope with climate change; expand the range of traffic emission peak targets; strengthen the transportation low-carbon policy and standard system; implement more national low-carbon policies and supplementary carbon pricing policies, among other policy recommendations.
