“As a developing country, China faces increasing international pressure in its carbon reduction progress. EU and U.S. think China has a lot of potential to speed up the process of eliminating coal production and consumption.”
— Zhao Ang from REEI interviewed by “Caixin Weekly”
on the theme of the 5th anniversary of “Paris Agreement”
Since the signing of the “Paris Agreement” in 2015, the international emission reduction commitments are still far from the emission reduction path under the 1.5 degree Celsius scenario. “Caixin Weekly” released a long aricle “Global Carbon Reduction Restarts” studying the global carbon reduction situation in 2015-2020. The article also discussed future obstacles in terms of capital, technology, processes and policy, as well as the change of emission reduction strategy and the progress of low-carbon technology application by major emitters during climate governance. The author interviewed the co-founder and co-director of REEI, Zhao Ang, for his opinions on the impacts of American President Biden's climate policy, increasing international carbon reduction pressure China faces, and emission reduction experience in 2010-2020 within the Eropean Union.
